Are 2013-2017ish Lexus es300h significantly better/nicer than Toyota Avalon Hybrid?

I'm shopping for a big/fullsize hybrid and looking for something reliable. It seem that avalon or es300h are my best bet. my budget is $25k or less so thats landing me at the 2013-2017 if i'm lucky. Am I wise to avoid the early years or does it not really matter? I typically try to avoid first model years.

Are the lexus much nicer inside than the avalon xle touring - limited? are the features about the same?

If you had to choose between a year older lexus would you choose the lexus or a one year newer avalon?
