2005 Renault Megane only starts when brake is pressed

So I have an '05 Megane Privilege 1.9 dci estate, these cars have a starter button instead of using a key. To start the car either the clutch or the brake has to be depressed (probably to stop forgetful people from starting it in gear). I always use the clutch to start it but lately it won't work and I have to use the brake pedal. I'd rather not change my habits, so has anybody had to deal with this sort of thing before? I assume that it's a switch behind the pedal somewhere.
