Ac clutch not engaging on 07 versa

I needed to get a used car for a relative and didn't have much of a budget. Got a versa with 160k for 2500 and everything is great except when I bought they had bypassed the ac clutch a wired from the alternator to the ac clutch wire, didn't think much of it since the ac was working and thought it might be a fuse. Today I took off the bypass wire and checked the fuses and the co pressure fuse is good so what could be another reason the xo.pressor is not getting power to the clutch
