I have gotten lazy and have been using a chain regularly for oil changes. I asked about an inspection but I hadn't brought my insurance or registration papers with so I said forget it. Well they took a gander anyway and let me know i needed new brake pads, especially the rear. He also advised me to do it myself since the parts are going to be marked up by a lot and the service is expensive on top of everything else. I can do the work myself, I have before, but I'm running into two issues.
First is finding the best brake pads for the money. I have no idea where to start as I have no knowledge of the different brands. I'm cool with spending a little extra now that I'm older and wiser, I've learned that cheap tends to cost you more in the long run. However, I am mindful of the price as I also need new forbidden words and will probably just do all 4 but don't need to have any of this done until December but with the holidays and all that I thought I would get it in early this year.
The second problem I see is the rear caliper, I'm worried I can't depress the piston. While I haven't had to do it on this car, my previous experience with brake pads and rotors was pretty bad, since the cars were older than me. I don't have the tool to wind it back and I remember it being such a pain in the ass. I don't believe you need to bleed the line but that was also on my mind, I was told to do it on my previous cars and I was never sure I did it right.
So if anyone could please let me know about either or both questions, I would really appreciate it.
