Helping someone that is stranded
Post Body

Hi everyone, tonight I was approached by a nice lady who had some unfortunate circumstances. She recently bought this 2002 GMC Envoy. She came up to me while I was working on my truck and told me that her serpentine belt had popped off. I offered to take a look..

Immediately I noticed the coolant leak. I asked her if she put in any coolant and she said she did. I looked on the cap and it said dexcool. I had a bad feeling. I asked her to show me what she used and she had mixed universal coolant with the dexcool. As you can see, coolant is everywhere.

The serpentine belt was dry-rotted, but I’ve seen much worse. I believe the leaking coolant caused the belt to start warping until it snapped. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

To me, the engine looks toast. However she is super desperate to at least get it home and she’s been stranded for 2 days and has nobody to help her. I offered to come in the morning to try to help as much as I could, but I’m not sure if anything will come of it. I’m thinking to do flushes in the cooling system, replace with the proper coolant, and add the new serpentine belt. But the coolant had leaked everywhere and has gotten in the alternator it seems. I want to help her but I’m not quite sure what I can do other than try to flush it and clean it up as much as I can and add the new belt. This is all going to be done in a parking lot.

Please any advice will help.

And yes, I did tell her that she should have it towed, but that is not an option. So, would it be possible for me to do a fix just to get her home? (~30 minute drive)
