Tldr: friends oil filter housing looks and feels good but is leaking consistently. Point me in a direction
2024 Hyundai Elantra 2.0 that a friend owns had the oil pressure light and check engine come on today on her way to work. Car went into limp mode and she almost got into an accident. She pulled over right away and called me I told her stay put so she doesn’t hurt the engine anymore. Leak was coming from the seam of her oil filter (cartridge style) so I threw a new one in for her and double checked it was snug. The threads seemed fine and it wasn’t double gasketed to begin with, when I put it on it didn’t feel like it was cross threading and the seam was flush. Topped it off and drove it around a little bit told her I’d come by with the scanner later to turn off the check engine but on my way back to work she said her oil light came back up. I haven’t been out to see if it’s leaking again yet I’m not sure if the light just stayed on and she didn’t notice it until she stopped. Is a factory defect possible, do I need to relearn anything with the scanner, or am I just retarded?
