Hey all. My brother recently picked up a 2016 Accord coupe ex-l v6 (j35 motor) with 117k~. From the looks of it, the car was neglected by previous owner(s).
Problem 1: Engine has a slight rotational tick, but overall runs smooth. I was thinking that might be fixed with an oil change, spark plugs, and maybe coil packs. Thoughts?
Problem 2: This is the main issue. Sometimes when you push start, you can hear the starter spin (doesn’t sound like a grind as others have described with this car) but the motor doesn’t turn over. One or two more tries and it starts up. Sometimes it also delays a bit when starting up (extended cranking). From what I’ve found, this model has a design flaw with the starter. Honda seems to have issued a TSB (16-002 I think) for this, which involves swapping in an updated starter, new gasket, and if necessary, rotating the flex plate one bolt over. If all that fails, they recommend changing the flex plate. I’m wondering if we can just keep using the car as is. Will this issue eventually lead to engine failure or some other catastrophic/expensive repair, or can I just keep dealing with starting it a few times? If it makes a difference, timing belt hasn’t been changed yes.
Thank you in advance.
