Howdy howdy, almost a decade ago I bought a '65 Plymouth Belvedere (sedan) for my first car, with a infamous A-Block 318 Polysphere. Some person matters happened and after a minor mechanical problem I couldn't afford to fix, I had to let the car sit for a few years. Now back in September with the help of a local shade-tree mechanic I got it running again, and have been really gung-ho spending what little extra cash I have on fixing it up! New wheels and tires, new replacement tail lights, & I built a center console with cup holders from charity metal. I have a few minor things left to do on it before my next major project, like putting a new windshield I've had laying around in it.
The next major project is I want to fix up the exhaust so I can drive it without be gassed out by the 59 year old rusted, cracked, and barely functional exhaust! The problem that's brought me here, is that I have only found one place that makes headers for the Polysphere. In the instructions for these headers it states clearly I have to switch from the boat anchor of a starter, to a mini-starter. That's something I do NOT want to do, so the question arises: if I beat on the $1,000 headers enough, do you wise and all knowing people of the internet think they'll clear the factory house sized starter? Would I be better off trying to pay someone to weld a custom set of shorties that'll clear for sure? Or do I die of carbon monoxide poisoning like a man, trying to ride out the factory exhaust until my current (6 or 7 month old) starter dies on me?
