My 2013 JKU Rubican Wrangler has been making some drivetrain noise. I took it to the dealership, and they said the rockers and lifters need to be replaced, and maybe the cams. Also needs the oil cooler replaced its leaking oil really good. So, at the low end, they said it would be $4800.00, and if it needs cams, it would be $7000.00.
I am 10 months past the extended warranty on the heads, so I think I am screwed there. It only has 60K miles, so maybe if I call Jeep corporate, they will make an exception? probably not...
I think they said their labor rate is 290 an hour, and that kinda blew me away.
My thoughts are to take it to an independent mechanic to get a bid, or buy a 3.6L crate more or remanufactured motor and replace the whole motor and, in the meantime, drive it until it dies or save up my money and do a V8 swap down the road. The problem is that it's my daily driver, and I really don't have the money for a V8 swap. I do have mechanical skills, but I'm not sure how hard it will be to tear down both heads, and really don't have the time.
I have bought 5 new jeeps over the past 15 years, and this will be the last, that's for damn sure. It is crazy that a motor with 60K miles has this extensive of motor failure.
What would you do? Any insight or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Kinda shocked right now...
Thanks so much
