College Student Looking For Her First Car

Hey Guys. Looking for some car dads to give me some advice here😁. I’m a 20 year old college student and I just got my license this past summer. I know that sounds a bit embarrassing but I was in a coma for a while so I couldn’t drive for some time (that’s a whole other story.) I’m going into my junior year of college and I desperately need a car now, taking the busses in my city has gotten so taxing and it’s a waste of time. My plan is too save $5,000 as a down payment and pay the rest over a year or two. I’m close to my goal but the most anxiety inducing part of this process is finding a good car. I was raised my women and we don’t know anything about buying cars really. My mom currently has a Ford Edge that she hates. It’s actually currently in the shop for the second time this month, but she isn’t done paying it off so there not much to do there. Because of that I’m basically banned from buying Fords. We had a Honda pilot that was pretty reliable but I don’t know what happened to it. Anyway, I’m looking for something in the used car price range from 12,000-17,000. Preferably a sedan or suv to transport siblings, and has a mileage under 80,000??? I think that’s reasonable??? I’d also like a newish model, like nothing before 2013. Are there any reliable reasonably priced cars with my description? I live in the Midwest btw so that should influence the used car market. Emphasis on the RELIABLE!!! I’m in school and I can’t afford the extra 500-2000$ car maintenance a month because something broke and the mechanic is trying to scam me😭. Please please help!!!!
