2.3k to “fix” my 5k car
Post Body

Thoughts?

The Mercedes Benz dealership is pissing me off. My 2007 c230 wouldn’t ignite, took it to a well known private mechanic that focuses on European cars, they refer me to actual MB dealership because it’s a key fob/security issue that “only MB can do”.

300$ initial diagnostic fee. 120$ fee to cut the mechanical key because they couldn’t get into car because security/fob issue. 700$ fee to order new fob. Now they say it’s still not working.

They’ve discovered conveniently that my ignition switch is after market apparently (I had no clue) so now they say they need to replace that which is another 2100$ for parts and labour. And technically it’s not gauranteed this would be final cost.

I’m now deciding if I ditch this all together instead of pay them 2100$ plus tax.

Options would be sell car for parts, or try to get someone to do aftermarket fob/ignition/security shit for cheaper but not sure if possible and seems like hassle.

Do you have suggestions?
