03 Ford Ranger - mechanic cut out some of the exhaust to make for a cheaper repair. Will the reduced airflow out impact the engine?

Post Body

Not much of a mechanic, just retelling y’all what the mechanic told me—

The y-fork upstream of the two cats was rusted so he just cut the whole passenger side one out and did a little welding. It was making an unbearable noise. He said it saved me a ton of money which genuinely is my main concern as I’m buying a new truck soon and didn’t need a money dump.

I know it’s not great for emissions but the outbound airflow is now reduced by 1/2 right? Will that reduction negatively impact the engine in some way?

I have no clue if my diagram is accurate, it’s just what he drew to explain
