I've had a squeaky belt recently and after spraying some belt conditioner I made it worse of course. I pulled the belt and spun each pulley to make sure they weren't the culprit, they spun freely with no wiggle. I drove about 30 miles with the squeak and today got a new belt. Going under the hood I found the old belt had been shredded half the normal width since looking at the pulleys and I believe the harmonic balancer fell off; I found it sitting by itself below the crank pulley & fan.
Is this a do-able press-on job (I saw no keyway) or is it best to just replace the crank and balancer together? Any thoughts on what could've shredded the belt aside from the balancer?
