(Story to follow) Should I be asking the shop who did the windshield replacement to cover the feels for their damage? I think I know there answer but here’s the story:
TL;DR below Got the windshield replace about two months ago (in Canada if that makes a difference) about two weeks ago my area (Vancouver) had very intense rains causing flooding etc. Not long after while visiting seattle I had an array of brake-related warning lights come on, (ABS, trac., parking brake etc) soon after returning home my brake pedal wasn’t responding normally, my brake lights were stuck on and my handbrake was loose.
Of course, I took it in. Turns out water had damaged wiring to the brake relay. Assumed it had splashed up after driving through 1-2 feet of water (lifted suv, don’t worry hahah) and gotten in via underneath the vehicle. Replaced brake relay and it was fine… for two days. Then it all cascades again. Repeated the process three times and went through two brand new relays as water kept getting inside the connectors. Finally the fourth time I had it, I left it with the shop for as long as it took them to find out WHERE the water was coming from since it hadn’t rained a lot recently.
Turns out it was coming from a gap left in the windshield drain where they hadn’t sealed it properly. This mistake cost me upwards of $700. Should I be asking/demanding that the glass place that did the replacement pay for the damages?
TL;DR window replacement shop left gap in lower windshield and drain, didn’t seal properly. Water got in and damaged brake relay costing around $700 in damages.
