Right now people don't have an incentive to fight below their own MMR.
Getting 10-15 for a win and -30-40 for a loss is just not worth gambling. Yeah you "should" be better than those below you, but if your rank is anywhere between 800 and 1800, the actual skill distribution in this entire area is very chaotic. I shouldn't have to win 2-4 times for every loss I encounter.
So right now you either gamble a 30 minute game to win 10 or lose 40, or you dodge until someone your level appears (because anyone ABOVE you is going to dodge you). This is hurting the game because people are getting frustrated; playing fewer hours or just quitting the game altogether.
The MMR gained/loss needs to be relaxed right now until the game picks up more players. Like right now if there's a 200 MMR difference, I'm getting about 15, -35 difference in w/l. It should be like 23/-27 (AT WORST 20/-30) UNTIL the population grows and getting into a game with someone at your level is more reliable.
I just got a 11 MMR win that went to round 12, dude had pending MMR so I couldn't tell how much it even was (which is fine, but if I knew his MMR was THAT FAR below me, I would have dodged). That's what prompted this post. ELEVEN MMR for about 45 minutes of my time.
- This is going to incentivize me (and many others) to just dodge all PENDING MMR matches in the future, creating a pseudo-gatekeeping mechanic for new players, because they just won't ever be able to get into a game.
I get that the system will "eventually" put everyone where they're supposed to go, but the population is too few at the moment, people are leaving and new accounts are being made (both smurf and actually new), so the first two standard deviations in skill level are all mixed up and MMR is somewhat unreliable, and will continue to be so for several months.
TL;DR: Please relax the MMR gained/lost due to difference in total MMR, until the population has both grown, and has had some time to settle closer to their real MMR bracket. IMO it shouldn't ever drop below 20, and shouldn't go above 30. TEN is outright ridiculous, as is 40.
Special mention: Duos is also kind of fucked. It's ~25-50% extra MMR (both gained and lost) for no real reason.
