Why is it you can sometime see multiple ships in a Hyperspace Lane/Tunnel/Bubble/Thing

The High Republic novels seem to imply that a ship is isolated in its own dimension when traveling through hyperspace and cannot interact with anything else (Yes I know a ship could run into a space-whale or another ship using un-orthodox tech)
However, in the TCW and Rebels, several starships are shown traveling together in hyperpspace. Is this an artistic choice or did technology advance to the point to enable this.
