He’s on Twitter today ridiculing Dirk’s new contract, insinuating that Cuban is somehow taking advantage of Dirk’s loyalty. That somehow taking less money is a weakness of character. If you spent a second listening to Cubes or Dirk you’d know this is a collaborative effort.
Hey Bomani, you know what the plaque on the Statue is gonna say: "If we're rebuilding, then I'm the face of that. If we're a championship (team), then I'm here for that. I just identified myself with the organization for so long, with the fan base, with the city, that no matter what the franchise is going through, I'm right there to push it through."
I get it man, modern day sports is a business. But maybe, despite his German roots, Dirk doesn’t view the world in the Marxian struggle for capital and resources that you do. Maybe abstract ideas like loyalty, love of a city, team and fanbase, actually exist to Dirk and are more valuable to him than another 25 mil.
And while we’re at it: there’s exactly one team willing to give Dirk 25 mil last year. Dirk was asking for half that and Cubes was like, nah fam, you get the legacy. So I’m sure if I go back a year I’ll find you ranting about Cubes being taken for a ride by Dirk right? This isn’t purely a business relationship. It’s a deal between gentlemen. It’s a deal amongst family. You think that the highest principles Dirk can have is to demand to be paid. Dirk’s highest principle is being a Mav. And that blows our minds and is one of just many reasons we celebrate him.
