For whatever reason, animation is viewed as the lesser medium when compared to live-action. Disney feels the need to update classic films (even though the company owes its entire existence to Walt's cartoons), so much so that they're billing hyper-realistic CGI as "live-action". Film-making is hard, so I don't understand the constant need to invalidate the hard work of animators, whether they're traditional or working with a computer.
The disrespect for the medium irritates me. None of Disney's remakes come close to what they achieved before on a narrative or artistic level. Sony, Warner Brothers, Nickelodeon, and DreamWorks have produced classics that are household names across the world, and then you have studios outside of the US such as Ghibli, Fortiche, Ufotable, Madhouse, Bones, Cartoon Saloon, Les Armateurs, and others which have produced bangers of their own. Obviously to the studios it boils down to money, but it's something of a self-fulfilling prophecy when you continue to disparage animation as a whole to nonsense for children or stoners.
With the push for live-action remakes, I ask for the inverse. What are some LA movies and shows that would make for great animations? What games and books would you like to see? Any particular style?
