I have been doing a lot of research to find a new mattress, and I just had the Helix Midnight Luxe for a couple of months. Here is my personal review:
Me:Â 35 y/o male, 6 feet tall, 180 lbs, normal/athletic body. Side sleeper, sometimes sleep on my belly. Consistent shoulder pain from old mattress.
Comfort:
The mattress is definitely comfortable — that's undeniable. From the moment I laid down, I just wanted to roll around and pass out. However, the problem came after 15 minutes of laying down. The hip area would sink way too much when I was on my side, to the point that my back was uncomfortably arched. I didn't care too much at first, but after a couple of weeks, it became a bit annoying. It didn’t cause me any back pain, but it was frustrating.
Shoulder Pain:
As a side sleeper, my shoulder area sunk perfectly, though. My shoulder pain definitely went away after the first week or so of sleeping on this mattress. So yes, this is a great mattress to relieve and eliminate shoulder pain (if caused by your mattress).
Belly Sleeping:
I know this mattress is ideal for side sleepers, but it is definitely not for belly sleepers. As I mentioned before, my hip area would sink too much, and when lying on my belly, my back would be uncomfortably arched. So I do not recommend this for belly sleepers.
Edge Support:
The edge support is very weak. I thought I wouldn't care too much about this at first. I don’t have a problem getting up from the bed or anything, but the problem was sitting up to watch TV. This was extremely uncomfortable as I would be sitting at the top edge of the mattress against my headboard, and I would sink completely. I would have to put so many pillows behind my back for support. It was frustrating.
It wasn’t uncomfortable to sleep on the edge of the bed. I have a king-size bed, and even though I sleep alone, I still sleep very close to the edge. I didn't have a problem with that; it was just when watching TV.
Action/Content Creation:
Having adult fun on this mattress was okay, but not the best. The mattress has a good bounce, so you can build some momentum. It's easy to move, roll around, and change positions, but I would sink in too much sometimes. If I stayed too long in one spot, my knees would feel a bit stuck. Also, cuddling was uncomfortable because it felt like my partner and I would sink into a hole together. The weak edge support wasn't great for some positions, but placing a pillow under my partner was an easy fix.
As a spicy content creator, the sinking was definitely a problem — half of my body would be submerged in the mattress, making me look very awkward. So if you are also a content creator and need to look good all the time on your mattress, unfortunately, this mattress is a big no for you.
Cooling:
I purchased the mattress with the GlacioTex Cooling Cover. It felt GREAT and worked very well. I like sleeping very cold and under a lot of blankets. I never felt too warm on the mattress; it kept a consistently comfortable temperature.
Conclusion:
It all depends on what you need and what you are willing to sacrifice for comfort. You get rid of shoulder pain, but your hips will sink a lot. You can sleep very comfortably but won't be able to sit up and watch TV. You can lie on your side, but not on your belly. It really depends on what YOU want. I definitely recommend it, as it is VERY comfortable. It's just not for me. I will continue my search!
