Why did it take so long?

Why did it take so long for Ego to find Peter Quill. In the main timeline, he goes with Yondu, and so Ego doesn’t know where he is, and he just moves on to his other children. But since in this timeline, he always stays on earth, why did Ego wait years to come get him?
