I’m truly wondering what Marvel editorial things they’re getting out of releasing things like G.O.D.S. #1, Fallen Friend, and this years Hellfire Gala as infinity comics only, not as full page standard format like the actual in-print books.
I get releasing promotional #1s early on MU to entice folks to continue buying big new series in the hard copies. And I get the appeal of infinity comics when that is the original artists intended format. (Though I dislike the portion of the infinity comics that are just reprints of existing comics storylines)
But I can’t wrap my head around what arguments are being made at the Marvel offices to take these big highly anticipated and heavily advertised issues and ruining them for mobile subscribers by not letting us read them the way the artists intended.
Genuinely curious if anyone has any insight there? Is it trying to make mobile app quality worse so people buy the hard copies since that makes them more money? Is there an understanding that infinity comics are more popular with the userbase as a whole or “perform better” (whatever that even means) and so they think this is what fans prefer?
Edit: Not sure if it is or not. It was in my “New This Week” section shortly after midnight but I looked again after this post and now all I see is the “First Look” infinity comic. The questions and confusion still stands though for the other recent major issues that have been given the similar treatment.
