I do always make the effort with her, but do I and how do I present this message to my partner. She doesn’t take bad news well, is easily upset and doesn’t have the best of relationship with our daughter.
Do I, say nothing, set-up days out with the two of them or try and phrase it a way which won’t upset her?
Edit: I wonder why it is so easily assumed I don’t get involved with the ‘boring stuff’; we both work full time, I get up early with daughter, do chores whilst playing, get her ready, do the school run, go to work, pick her up, go somewhere fun, cook dinner, clean up, play, will either put her to bed or tidy up, once down I’ll do some laundry / cleaning then go to bed myself. Don’t need much or any ‘me’ time, the 30mins of listening to an audio book before I fall asleep is enough. Not meaning to sound snotty, but it’s getting a little frustrating that so many (not all) start with the assumption that I’m a weekend dad.
Edit 2: I’m not looking to upset anyway, my concern is she would say something like this to her in her typically blunt fashion and that would be awful for her (wife) to experience.
Update: thank you for the responses, particularly @SmallSacrifice and @sgt_smitty Plan of action: don’t say anything, setup up days out for daughter and wife to spend more time together doing different things (that’s the short version)
Update 2: setup a trip out with another parent (and a lift!!) I insisted there were some DIY jobs that simply couldn’t wait any longer. Went pretty well, there were two ‘I want my daddy’s apparently; but a step in the right direction.
