So I been reading this sub for a little while and wanted to share how my wife and I met. This is a very long story so please have patience and a cup of your favorite beverage, I have to give you some background on how I got there so you appreciate what it took to get me to that exact day and time.
It was 1994, I was only a year and change into my military service in Miami. I bought a car but it needed some serious work which I had no way of doing myself, I lived on the ship and had no tools or means to do the repairs. I sent the car to the dealer about October, I had to pay them monthly and I wasnât making a lot of money. New Years was around the corner and the dealer said I had to get the car paid for and out (they were VERY patient with me), by this time I got an apartment off base and was riding the bus, which had its ups and downs. I scraped up the money and got the car back to base, as it was safer there than at the apartment. I still needed to register and insure it so I had to wait for next pay period, Jan 15, 1995 I got the car registered, started looking in the phone book for insurance companies (no internet or smart phones at the time) I found a place but had to wait to get to the office to give them payment. Jan 16, a Monday I finally got the car insured and was able to drive it home to the apartment.
Tuesday Jan 17, I was able to drive to work. On the way home there were three ways to get to my apartment, Route 1 was all lights, I decided at the last minute to skip it and go the long way around on 826. As I was nearing the exit I thought about the turnpike but it was a dollar and I was flat broke, then I thought to look in my console and lo and behold a GW was there. So off to the turnpike I went. I entered the booth gave my dollar the attendant and off I went,as I was heading out of the tolls I passed a white Chrysler Lebaron convertible in the lane next to me, didnât think anything of it, but as I got ahead I looked in the rear view mirror and the car had a long white license plate with black lettering like you see in Europe.
I am a car guy and was curious why a Chrysler would have a plate like that. I slowed down and let the car catch up, the plate said âGo Toplessâ and there was a beautiful woman driving, so I looked over and waved, she gave me to most who the âblankâ are you looking at look. I smiled and went on my way, but as I was driving I noticed she was in the same lane as me now, we both took the same exit for Kendall dr. I went to the left (my apartment was to the right but I going to a store) she went to the right. As I looked behind and watched her I gave a toot of my horn as she merged onto Kendall.
Now this is a point of contention between me and her but gives us both a chuckle when the subject comes up, she claims she just waved but I swear I saw the follow me wave. Now some will say what I did next is very stalkerish (in this day and age) but I did what I did. I couldnât turn onto the road from my location so I drove over two islands to get back onto the road, almost getting Tboned by a small red Toyota pickup. I caught up to her and waved her into a Mobil gas station, we stayed in our cars and I asked her if she wanted to get a drink, she replied she didnât drink, so I said coffee, she agreed and we went to a Tony Romaâs in the mall next to gas station. We sat and the small chit chat started ok, she was so beautiful and I am normally very very shy around women I felt so comfortable with her. We talked and are both from the north, she was from Brooklyn (explains The Who are you looking at look) and I am from New Hampshire. We hit it off pretty well, I asked her what she was doing later the night and she said she had to clean her apartment, I offered to help with my reply âmy dad told me I would make a good housewife somedayâ. This statement is true as my dad made all 5 kids clean the house and really harped on me and my brother to do as good a job as my sisters.
She was flabbergasted, she invited me over, she lived a mile or so past my apartment and come to find out she had actually left work late that day for the first time in three years, she was always out of work at 3:30pm but today she left at 3:45.
We married June 1995 and have been married 26 very happy years.
