After the kids leave

From my (m47) side, we have been married for the benefit of the kids since we have a very amicable and respectful relationship. She would want to keep married and trying to improve, I don’t.
But as the kids start to leave home for college, how big are the changes in the relationships ? What others do with coming home from work and is just your partner.
It seems to me that this will only speed the divorce process, but not sure if my perception is skewed.
