The first few years of our (39m/39f) (15 years and counting) marriage, we had separate accounts. I felt like we were always on different pages and argued a lot about money. After some financial training, We ended up getting a joint account and our marriage got so much better. We have been on the same page and have been able to build our finances TOGETHER.
My wife’s mom is divorced (and remarried) but has always told her daughters to have an “ secret emergency account.” My wife refuses to. My own parents have always had separate accounts as well and they operate more like roommates, than a married couple.
I’m not saying either way is right or wrong, but for us, joint account works. How about y’all?
