Threat of Separation: Take our Daughter
Post Body

Before I start, this isn’t particularly dramatic. Had an argument a few days and it was thrown at me: “if we split, our daughter is coming with me.” At the time I was trying to calm things, but this has been playing on my mind. Our daughter has additional needs and behavioural difficulties; she’s great but not ‘easy’ to look after. My partner has, on numerous occasions struggled to cope with parenting and reached out for help.

Now, our daughter typically gravitates to me. I do the days out, school pick-ups / drop offs, getting her reading, helping with homework is split 50/50 to be fair. Anyway, I’m not saying I wouldn’t struggle as a single parent, I’m sure I would. But… I know my partner would not cope! We have a plan if I were to die, as there would be a substantial cash injection and they would go live with my in-laws (in a different country).

I don’t wish to cause upset by pointing this out, because I do think it is recognised and known. But, I mean, do I just ignore the comment or just get evidence in case I have to battle in courts? Or something else? We’re not planning on separating, but, I dunno.
