My counter argument: Raving Rabbids had a tv series and I find them immediately more annoying, even if they’re designed to be so. Still, if you want more proof, minions had their own movie, two of them, and though their initial design wasn’t to be annoying they definitely come across that way.
Aside from that, Charles Martinet could change the voice a bit to make it more enjoyable. Alternatively, if they did want to focus on Mario from Brooklyn, then why not try for an exaggerated Brooklyn accent. I mean it is a kids film, plus we could call it a call back to the super Mario bros super show.
My point is there’s no point in saying the game Mario voice would be annoying since we don’t hear it often. It’s usually gibberish with an OK, Okie dokie, Let’s a go, or whatever thrown in, usually on not so good quality speakers like the game boy where the audio is compressed. The worst thing is we don’t get a chance to hear what Charles Martinet would do if he did alter the voice for the audience, but Chris Pratt’s kinda lack luster voice in the trailers just takes a bit of fun out of it for me.
