Like many of you, I listen to a lot of comedy podcasts. In addition to WTF, I listen to Theo's podcast, Burr's podcast, Tiger Belly/Bad Friends, We Might Be Drunk, You Made it Weird, Neal Brennan's Blocks, and sometimes Joe Rogan. Out of all of these, Marc is very much an outlier in that he only does ads in the opening monologue while every single other podcast that I've listed will interrupt the conversation with ad breaks that often feels abrupt and unnecessary. Further, I think it's actually quite problematic (I know, I hate that word, but I can't think of another one right now) that so many of these other podcasts take money from gambling companies, especially DraftKings. I feel like Joe and Pete Holmes have a lot in common in that a huge bulk of their ads are supplements and 'neutropics' and other snake oil garbage that people used to roll their eyes at Alex Jones for hawking. Almost everyone takes money from Blue Chew boner pills.
Anyway, I've been listening to WTF for 10 years now and have heard basically every episode and am currently up to date with Ali Macofsky (which was a pretty good one, all things considered, though her voice is kind of annoying, but ymmv). Because of my expertise, I wanted to share my findings and my conclusion is that Marc is likely the least greedy and most ethical when it comes to ads and I think this should be discussed more often. Similarly, I think shade should be cast on comedians that take gambling money, especially those comedians who talk a big game about recovery (ahem, Theo Von).
