Post - Marathon Recovery / Base Training
Post Body

Hey all -

Finished marathon #2 (3:48) but the first one was 5 years ago and just getting back into running. This one was effectively from the couch but gave myself 9 months. 39/m. Ran XC/Track in HS but no consistent running outside of a couple of years. Iā€™m really planning on staying consistent with this through my 40s/50s/60s.

Whatā€™s everyoneā€™s routine for the 2-4 weeks (not immediately post race) post marathon into ā€œbase buildingā€ post marathon? How many days off, what does running look like for you, motivation, next race, base building period, etc

I gave myself 6 days off then did a run light leg day lift and my legs are completely dead again. I think I may need more recovery and work into things slower but curious everyone elseā€™s experience based on the fitness level.
