So this idea sprung up around an English Technopolis future where you continually upgrade a single robotic companion and fabricate your own personal energy weapons from scraps and mods.
Our story begins as your doting family sees you off as you set sail for your first voyage with the Post-Apocalyptic British Hover-Navy. Your father is so proud that his only child has chosen to serve their country and rid the world of bloody, non-anglo, savages, you mother holds back her tears and reminds you to come home safely, your grandmother doesn’t quite have all of her marbles in order but she baked you a sweet roll to take on your class trip. They’ve even brought out the family robo-dog (Insert Name Here) who barks and licks your face in a fond farewell. As you make your way up on deck you greet the ship’s duty officer and hand over your assignment and test results from the academy (SPECIAL and Stats) before making your way below deck and fixing up your appearance for the crew photo (Character Creator), what will your military career have in store for you? Will you be a crack-shot sniper from the rigging, a medical officer doling out anti-malarial shots, a science minded student eager to collect specimens and see distant cultures, or do you simply wish to rise up the ranks and play the political games of promotion. The next few years will chart a course for the rest of your life.
A few short intro missions later your journey is complete and you find yourself returning to the very same dock where you last saw your homeland departing over the waves behind you, of course your family is there again, a little older, a little softer around the midsection, but over the moon at your return. They’re sure you want to get caught up on everything that’s gone on in Britain since you’ve been gone but you’re probably just exhausted and want to rest back in your childhood home. When you left, your loyal dog just wasn’t the same so your parents did the humane thing and had it put in storage, now that you’re back you can boot them back up and, surprise surprise, install a new personality mod that your parents got you as a coming home present, choose between a ‘cute tricks’ chip (Speech Barter), ‘obedience school’ (Science and Medicine), or ‘guard dog’ (Unarmed and Sneak). Then if you don’t mind, your father needs a hand in the shed getting some new-fangled gardening tool to work (introduction to weapons creation) and once you’ve got the bloody thing working he tells you how proud of you he is and that no matter what happens, you’ll always be his child. Back inside your mum tells you that your old friends are having a party for you down at the local pub and you should head over if you don’t want to miss it, there will be plenty of time to catch up later so don’t feel bad about leaving your parents alone for the evening.
Suddenly, there’s an unexpected knock on the door and Gasp it’s the British home guard, they’ve come to arrest everyone in the house for their complicity with an anti-royal extremist group. Your parents protest but the officers won’t hear of it and they mercilessly subdue and arrest your mum and dad, they’re even going after Gran when you decide to fight back, knocking out one of the government thugs you try to free your folks but they tell you to run, the streets are swarming with police and their bobby-tron security units and you duck down alleyways, making use of the new and improved jump physics to evade them. Eventually, you’re cornered on an overpass, just you and your trusty dog sidekick, the only way of escape is a death defying leap onto the back of a speeding lorry below and you’re whisked away from the flashing police lights wondering if you’ll ever see home again.
When the truck finally stops you find yourself in the quiet countryside far from the hustle and bustle of the city, you don’t know exactly why or how your parents came to be arrested and you’ll have to make some tough choices when it comes to dealing with that question. Will you side with the anti-royalists and bring down the oppressive regime of the monarchy? Will you vow to the crown to root out agitators in exchange for a pardon? Or will you simply seek to cause anarchy in the UK? At present, though, you’ll need to navigate the peacefully rolling hills dotted with small, close knit villages plagued my roving highwaymen and mysterious, dark forces which creep in the night. You may settle disputes between landed gentry and commoners, involve yourself in the labor fights when mining companies disagree their employees, take up a teaching position at the prestigious boarding school where the stodgy old headmaster has trouble bringing the free spirited children under their heel, or go searching for legendary treasure hidden long on in forgotten ruins. You’ll have to rely on your wits and only trust your robotic canine companion as you try to make your way to busy London, rife with street toughs and swinging counter culteralists, where you’ll come face to face with the secretive monarchy, an ancient line of German engineered cyborgs who rule Britania from their inscrutable seats of power.
Pip-Pip boy and enjoy a spot of Nuka-Tea as you explore the wonderful world of Fallout: n-UK-e.
