Garden tub, regular tub/shower, or standalone tub + separate shower?
Post Body

I don’t take baths often, but when I do, I want a really nice bath experience. I gave birth to my kids in a hospital that had really big tubs in the bathrooms — Like I could lay totally flat without bending my knees at all. Since then, have been craving a nice soaking tub for years. In an ideal world, I think I would want a 72”x36” tub/shower combo.

The manufactured home we are looking at has three options for the master bathroom:

  1. A tub/shower combo that is 60”x30”
  2. A tub/shower “garden bath” that is 54”x42” — but I’m pretty sure those are the exterior dimensions it looks like there is a significant ledge with kind of a “step” on the side? So I’m guessing the basin width is more like 34”?
  3. A stand-alone 36”x36” shower and a separate soaking tub — it looks like it’s about 60”x32”

Does anyone have option 2 or 3? What do you think of it? Is a separate shower and a standalone tub worth the extra bathroom real estate? Is a mobile home garden tub comfortable to bathe in?

Anyone know the actual basin width of a 54”x42” garden tub with one of those side steps? This info is surprisingly difficult to find online.

Also, when I search for 54”x42” garden tubs, the only hits that come up are mobile home parts stores….is this type of bathtub only found in mobile homes? As a result, does it effectively “look” like a mobile home bathtub as well and do you think this would affect resale value?

Thanks for any help!
