Hey guys when can you take your puppy to the groomer?

Hi guys I have a Maltese puppy she is 4months and 3 days old, it's summer here and she looks scruffy but beautiful when washed but she really needs a trim I heard something about waiting for adult hairs to grow so I'm not sure what to tell the groomer and when I can take her to the groomer advice please
