Male hanger modification

Hi man, first let me say I love the male hanger. My question is can I shorten the male hanger strap? I want to start using the male hanger with the apex ,but with my penis length I am worried I will be passed the maximum working length of the apex witch is 101/2". My sfpl is 8 3/8" so that plus the male hanger strap length puts me right there.
