What a ride! It took me a long time to get through this because i have been really busy at work but i still enjoyed the hell out of it despite not following along as well as i should have. I loved the chain of dogs, my god Coltaine really comes into his own along with the other Wickans, it took a bit but by the middle of the book you really fall in love with how fucking persistent they are along with the seventh.
Duiker is a favorite for me, he just gives off the grizzled veteran vibe the whole time, hes seen it all and dont give a fuck what you think. He even wins over the Wickans by the end and is just a badass all around, not sure what the hell happened at the end there but i don't think hes gone for good! Favorite part of the book is when he stops Nethpara throat in, even if he did save him a ton of suffering.
Everything else was amazing as well, Fiddler steals the show when hes in the picture, loved Apsalar as well, shes such a cool character, sets up tons of great moments when she keeps finding her lost skills and memories. Also curious to see what happens to her since she went back home as that seems unlikely to last.
Stormy, Gesler, and Truth were great, i think what happened with this is probably the part of the book i understand the least, no idea why they almost ascended, but its all cool as hell and look forward to it unraveling down the road.
Kalam was good, but it was a bit hard to follow his motivations throughout the story, he seems all over the place from delivering the book then deciding to not kill Laseen though its not like he could have since i guess she was talking through a corpse? I also thought it was odd Kalam and Fiddler diden't know about the plan to win over Darujistan and Genabackis by "betraying" the bridgeburners.
Enjoyed Icarium and Mappo a lot, sad story all around, not 100% i understand it, but i gather that Mappo doesn't know Icarium didn't actually kill his tribe, his own people killed them as a ruse to get him to occupy Icarium. Though i still gather Icarium is dangerous as hell regardless with the Azath still wanting him contained.
Weakest part of the book for me is Felisin's journey. It starts out really sad but she kinda got on my nerves a bit and i guess i dont fully understand her reasons for becoming Sha'ik. I get that she might not of had a choice at that point but i guess she still wants revenge on her sister? Also i know its not really explained but why is Tavore adjunct again? Its not explained why Laseen chose her other than she was willing to sell her family out along with the other nobles. What qualifies her for the job?
Anyways im sure im missing some stuff, bit tired so sorry for any spelling or grammar mistakes, and sorry if its a bit incohesive but i really wanted to write something up about this as i enjoyed the hell out of it and llok forward to Memories of Ice. Thanks for taking the time to read this and i will try and post something up again when i finish MOI, though it might be awhile! That sucker is THICK! Happy reading all!
