I'm not sure if this applies specifically to MakeupRehab but this is something that I feel has greatly helped me overall in acknowledging what products I don't reach for/use and for removing items from my stash that I've been saving for extended periods of time (Erm.. hoarding) that I haven't used up and know I will never use for one reason or another. You know how we get caught up in the mentality that if we toss something,. even if we don't use it, it's a waste of money? Realistically, I've already spent that money and there's no way to get it back. I'm not redeeming myself by saving something that's expired/that I don't love. Anyway, I thought I'd share some reviews and/or why I'm throwing away all of this stuff
First off are the lippies. This makes me feel the worst - I probably have more lip products than anything else in my make up stash. Most of them are also all in the same color range - yet another reason to be more brutal with what I save vs what I decide to destash/toss.
The Ofra lippies applied pretty well but ran dry within a couple months of using them. I received them in a swap so they had already been used a couple times... this could be why they had such a short life. Sigh.
I love the NYX High Voltage lip color (Purple) but it broke somehow and the stick doesn't roll up anymore. I was actually given that so I don't have as much guilt tossing it.
The Tarte Namaste and the Buxom Centerfold LL were great - they too just dried out quickly (Received both in a MUE)
The e.l.f. red matte lip also broke somehow... it doesn't extend and I don't reach for it anymore to even use the remaining stub.
I've saved that nude Maybelline lip for about three years now... I used to wear it every other day for a three month period, so it's been worn down to a stub for a long time now. Plus this was the lipstick I wore when my boyfriend & I were first getting to know each other, so it took a bit of a mental push to toss it instead of hiding it in some wayward corner of my closet.
Okay - on to the Physician's Formula products! To be honest, this doesn't hurt as much as tossing the other products - I received both of them from a friend and by that time they had been very well used. I used them a fair bit until the pigmentation and overall good coverage of both the powder & the blush wore off - then I saved them in my back up storage of excess make up. Why do I do this to myself? I have so many face products that are similar (And better!) than these so there is literally no reason to save them - thus, tossing them.
On to Skincare/Nails! They're being tossed for the simple reason that the formula is all goopy and has rendered them unusable. I didn't care very much for the drugstore brands - but I LOVED the Trust Fund Beauty one, it was just empty so it had to go. (Pretty pale pink color :)) I don't know what happened to that little, teeeeennnyyy bottle of CVIT Facial Serum - it literally all evaporated or leaked in storage. So we'll never know if it was good or not. The generic, Target brand moisturizer was long past it's expiration date and had to go. Those grapefruit wipes smell like DEATH... I have no idea what happened to them... honestly, I don't think they were even that old, but they smell god awful. They were the first thing I readily tossed into the bin.
And now it's time for mascara/eye/brow products! Second favorite only to lippies. I used most of the Rapid Lash XL - it was becoming goopy and crusty so it had to go. The Stila liner is broken - it won't push up anymore. I used up the brow end of the NYX Sculpt & Brow product but have been saving the highlighting end for months and months... telling myself I'll reach for it when I want to conceal around my eyes and, alas, it continued to sit in my closet unused. The ModelLauncher liner was awesome when I first got it - but it's a year old now and officially expires this month, so... goodbye. All the mascaras dried out. Some of them I only used maybe twice. (The Tarte & Smashbox) So I felt guilt in tossing them but they ended up in the bin anyway - I refuse to keep anything out of guilt.
