So I've only stepped up my eyeshadow game in the last year or two because money. I've been getting in a good bit of practice with brushes, glitter colors, and bright colors. I'd like to try a neutral look next so I can pair that with a classic red lip.
Anyway, I've noticed that a common method is to use a base color across the lid, a darker color on the outer corners, and a third transition color horizontally across the crease. That's probably an oversimplified explanation, but hopefully you all get the idea.
I tend skip the transition color, though. I've tried using UD's Solstice (applies as a pale brown) as the transition color, but it always comes out looking muddy, excessive, and unnecessary. I even had an Ulta salesperson try adding a third color, and honestly it just looked weird. I don't think it was her fault, and I don't think the color is the issue. For me, it just looks pointless. For reference, I have a fairly small eyelid space with slightly hooded eyes, and that may have something to do with it.
I know that everyone's makeup technique is slightly different, and it's easy to say, "If you don't like it, don't do it!" But everyone around me seems to think I need a transition color. I can't figure out if I'm just not doing it right or if some people really just honestly don't need that transition color.
Thoughts?
