Currently, I'm a graduate student in experimental psychology. It keeps me very busy. I'm off until the fall semester, though. The human mind is fascinating to me, that's why I picked psychology. My thesis is about memory, which is interesting because it's a topic that's in many more movies than you would think, and just about every thought you have involves a memory in some way. I don't mean just the movie Memento. Even Blade Runner has a lot to say about it. The whole nature of consciousness is mysterious, and that's why it's so appealing to study. What is your identity if not in large parts your memories of that identity? Of your past? Of the people you've known?
It should be no surprise that I'm also really into philosophy of mind, linguistics, and computer science. I'm really into the history of Rome, economics, learning languages, and technology. There's so much I would love to talk about, whatever strikes you is plenty to start a conversation! I write scifi stories, so all of these topics affect my creative thinking. Besides those consciousness themes, I'm really into themes of grabbing control of your life, and trans-humanist concepts. Altered states of consciousness as well.
Big fan of Nietzsche, William Gibson, and Robert Heinlein. The shows I'm really into are Legion, Mr. Robot, American Gods, Hannibal, Westworld, and Downton Abbey. Clearly, one of these is not like the others. Comedy is also really big for me. I love the podcast Comedy Bang Bang. Seinfeld and Community are amazing shows, and Rick and Morty. The Opposition is my favorite show that has taken up Colbert's old time slot.
Music is a big part of my life. Punk and postpunk are my favorite genres of music. I know a lot about classic rock, and classical. Used to be a giant fan of Led Zeppelin. I still am, but The Smiths and The Cure are my top picks now. Depeche Mode, Ariana Grande, REM, Lady Gaga, My Chemical Romance, Pink Floyd. These are the bands that I come back to time and time again. But postpunk fills in the majority of the sound I listen to. CHVRCHES released a new album recently, and I really like it. Try it if you haven't!
