Common Ground Fair Questions
Post Body

It's been like....a really long time....since I went to Common Ground. Last time we were barely not-teenagers, and didn't really worry about not eating all day because holy fucking food prices, or running out of water, or carrying a ton of shit around all day with nowhere to put it, and there were a lot less people there looking to do/see/buy things. Now we're in our 40's with bad backs and towing a pack of kids to the fair but goddammit we're going because we've finally got fair weekend off work, and inquiring minds want to know (but cannot get straight answers from the MOFGA FAQ page) about:

- Can we bring a folding wagon/stroller/wheeled-child-and-shit carrier of some kind with us? We've got train tickets and 8-5 is a big ask from preschoolers on foot, and backpack carriers for that long are...heavy. The prospect of being 8-5 on my own feet with a hiking pack full of lunches, waters, jackets & sunscreen etc and the inevitable mumma-carry-me is not wildly appealing. Playing pass-the-parcel with a five year old gets old fast too.

- Can we pack a picnic lunch? Lots of people online talking about 80 people in line for food vendors, and my four-year-old is both too impatient and too picky to stand in line for an hour for cabbage rolls (TBH, so am I anymore.) Mumma just spent like $100 on tickets for this shit, I wanna bring some PB&Js and Goldfish crackers to offset both costs and hot-hungry-kid meltdowns. Is that gonna get me arrested by the Organic Police? Or is it like movie theaters in the 90's where everyone knows what's in the box in your pocket but if you're not a dick about it, you're fine?

Thanks guys! Just trying to minimize the potential stress of an all-day outing in big crowds.

Comments

Yes, of course. Both are fine. Just don’t let your goldfish cracker bags blow away. Be prepared to carry out trash like that. And good plan with the train; it is by far the easiest option, especially with kids. Have fun at the fair. Do the vegetable parade with your children.
