Hi there, I'd like to root my A20e and all the tutorials I find are quite dated. I'm trying to anticipate to any problems and I found two recent posts (here and here) on XDA saying that attempting to root this device resulted in bricking. Another one says that Magisk did not continue with the follow-up tasks after flashing. So I'd like to ask some questions to make sure I understand everything correctly. This is the tutorial I'm planning to follow.
- Does the patching of the boot.img file need to be done specifically after unlocking bootloader?
- Do I simply rename the patched file to .img.tar or do I have to use 7zip to actually compress the file in .tar format? First the tutorial says "boot.img.tar" and later on it says "boot.tar".
- The tutorial says to flash AP only, but I also found another one that say I should also flash BL, CP and CSC, so what should I do?
- Is there a specific version of Magisk I need to use or do I simply install the latest one?
Thanks very much in advance..
Edit: I managed to root it without any complications, but whenever I boot it with root the touchscreen doesn't work. There are tons of posts out there complaining about that same problem and no one has provided a solution yet. Apparently there's no way to use this phone with root unless it's with a wireless mouse through an OTG adapter.
In any case, my motivation to root it was to use a hosts file to block youtube ads and, after copying a recently updated list from here, I still get ads on practically every single video.
So if you have this phone and want to root if for that reason, the process is easy but the result is not worth it.
