This is perhaps just a variation of a tired cliché but I thought it might be fun.

How would history have been different if instead of a long-connected(ish) landmass in the northern hemisphere (North America/the Americas), there had been a large landmass in the southern hemisphere (i.e. Terra Australis) that was unconnected to the Old World and therefore not discovered until the Age of Exploration (assuming discovery by any stray Polynesians does not result in much).
