Theme Diamonds

Starting prep on theme diamonds while golds are cheap. Wondering, does it make sense to pick up backup silvers / core rookies as well, or just core golds / core elites? I know the silvers weren't in sets last year, but since they don't have tokens is it worth stockpiling them for diamonds or just overkill?
You guys doing anything else to prep for theme diamonds, or just waiting for them to drop?
