WR just runs away from the ball sometimes?

So I just failed a 2pt conversion, my HB was wide open for the slant and I lobbed the ball to him and he just ran away from the ball. Didn't acknowledge the pass or anything. How do you avoid this glitch? Has the game always been this way? Bc I honestly don't want to play anymore after seeing this over and over.
