I have some health problems that make me doubt my long term abilities to be a machinist, at least in the type of shop I am in now. I don't know what the next big thing is going to be, but I'm hoping to eventually get myself to a point where I can do some sort of consulting in whatever it is. Alternatively thinking about a technical college teaching career. I could always be a programmer exclusively, but I love all the other aspects of the job too.
I was a computer programmer previously, so I've done a lot on the post-processor side as well as some automation, and of course macros. I do a lot of 5 axis programming, automating with fanuc robots, wire and ram edm, jig grinding, etc. Been on a lot of different mills. Mastercam, fusion, solidworks, etc.
Not very experienced on lathes at all, trying to get some there.
I don't want to get out of machining, but I want to have an out that is still machining adjacent. Anyone have any advice or ideas?
