I am learning how to make patches, but I'm struggling with the satin stitch. The top thread is always loose at the end and starts unraveling, no matter the color or tension. Last time I tried, I started with a square shape in PE Design Next, I removed the filling and selected satin stitch for the border. It should not be a digitizing mistake, as it's a simple function of the software.
All I could do to help was to add a little section of satin stitch by manually adding zigzag lines on top of the border where it stops, and when the embroidery is done, I pull a little bit on the thread to make it longer and I tie a knot with the bobbin thread. It's annoying, difficult as the threads are short and isn't very secure. I have to use a lighter to melt the threads a little bit, hoping it will stop them from unraveling.
Any help will be appreciated, thank you!
It sounds like your satin stitch just doesn’t have a proper tie off stitch enabled.
Hmm if there’s no option then I’d say adding it manually like you’ve been doing is probably the best option then. You should only need to pull the threads to the back and hit them with a lighter to secure them.
I use Melco’s Design Shop. It’s not cheap but as I do embroidery as a full time living, it has the features I need.

I wouldn’t be able to tell you exactly how to do it in your software, but it should just be a setting somewhere to enable a tie off for that object. In the software I use it’s literally just a checkbox that needs to be ticked, and then there’s an option for a few different styles of ties.
