Don't use an Edge Run for stretchy material
Post Body

Today, I embroidered my first foam trucker cap, I used built-in Block lettering and used an Edge run on them.

NOTE: I should have left the lettering at default with a center run as underlay.

I created a rectangle box to surround the lettering.

The rectangle box used a 3MM wide satin stitch with an edge run and zig-zag underlay. 5MM would be better as the box sunk into the thick foam of the hat.

I added pull compensation for both the lettering and box.

LESSON OF THE DAY: Don't use an Edge Run for stretchy material

Comments

I do edge runs on stretchy materials all the time, the issue with foam hats is the material compresses so much! Iā€™d almost equate them more to stitching on puffy jackets. An edge run will still usually give the best results but you may need to add even more pull comp or set the underlay further in. New materials are always a learning curve! I know Iā€™m sure glad my customers almost never request those hats šŸ¤£
