I have a back office that houses my commercial embroidery machine, I use a dedicated Dell Desktop running the OS for my embroidery machine, not connected to the Internet and is connected to my Melco EMT16X via Crossover cable network. I normally work in another part of the house on my laptop and have to load designs on a USB flash drive and walk it over to the desktop computer for my embroidery machine.
I was inspired by the cost of the $399 Wilcom EmbroideryConnect device which is just a glorified wireless device to transfer designs from the Wilcom software to the embroidery machine. It has more features but, it's overkill for my workflow.
My solution is simple, it's a USB Active Extension Repeater Cable, it's 16 feet long, plugged into my desktop for my embroidery machine and I stretched the cable to my desk in the other room. I can easily plug in the USB drive in the Repeater at my desk and it acts like a middle Man. It works perfectly for me, I figure, I can buy a cheap USB Hub and plug it into the repeater cable and that way I won't have to unplug any USB drive into anything,
This is more secure for me and hopefully somebody can benefit from this little project I created.
Here's the link to my cable for everyone.

NOTE: I used to work in IT (computers) for over 10 years and not a big fan of WIFI. I hardwire (network cables) all of my computers and devices.
We use a NAS. Works great. All my files are organized there, instant access from both computers, they get backed up to a cloud based drive as well.
