Thread too tight yo easily remove when changing colors.

I just got a Brother SE2000, I did my first embroidery design today, but when I'm changing out the thread color it is extremely hard d to remove the thread, I can't just clip it and pull it through. I have to unthread part of the way and then pull it out. Is that normal for this machine or am I doing something wrong. I should add that when I was sewing on the machine the thread could be removed normally/ easily. Thanks for any help.

That is indeed the reason. Lowering the presser foot engages the tension disks.
