Photos sync so slow

Why does the Photos app within MacOS update so darn slowly? I have been trying to sync my photo album for almost a week now from videos I took on my iPhone and iPad. I can go to iCloud.com and manually download the entire collection there faster than what the app is doing. Any ideas?
