Sonoma clean install questions (and I’m a newbie)

Post Body

Ok, so these are probably gonna be some dumb, basic and or obvious questions….but I have been using Windows since 3.1 - got my first Mac (M1 MB Pro) a few months ago. So I know PC backwards and forwards. Mac is a whole new world to me…

Came with Ventura, and I installed the Sonoma beta. Everything went fine, but the last 2 weeks or so my Mac has been rebooting “due to an error” when it sleeps for a decent amount of time. I don’t like that, and someone suggested a clean install.

Simple enough…. So I thought. I read a bit, watched some YouTube videos and such and I felt ready.

I am running into one issue and I have some questions. I suspect my questions are just from nerves. I love this damn laptop so much (seriously, it has blown my mind daily, I truly love it) and I don’t wanna mess it up. The issue is because I have old stuff lol. Anyway, here we go:

Issue: I see that I need a bootable USB. Ok, no problem, I have a lot of old usb sticks, all about 32 gigs. Finally, I actually have a use for one of these damn things I can’t bring myself to throw away… but they are USB A….hmm… well, my Mac is usually connected to a dock that has USB A ports…will that work??

If not, I have a USB C dongle with a slot that will take an SD card (and I have plenty of SD cards), will THAT work?

I think I will end with this, and save my questions for later. If I can get around this issue, my questions might be pointless anyway.

So thank you for reading my long winded, slightly fear induced post, and thank you in advance for any help 😎

Take care, Rob
