Specialized status 160 - thinking of dropping down a frame size - am I nuts?

Post Body

I'm 6'1" (long limbs, short torso) on an S4 status. According to the size chart, I should be between an S4 and S5, but even the S4 feels long. It's been my "park bike" for the last year, primarily for riding southeast US bike parks like Snowshoe and Windrock, and also some Michigan stuff like Copper Harbor and Marquette. While I've generally enjoyed it, I'm starting to think I would be happier on a more maneuverable bike. I'm already running a super short stem (30mm). Has anyone my height had a decent amount of time on an S3 status? Or anyone well below the recommended size for their height? I suspect that it could be my lack of physical fitness that is making it hard for me to muscle a long reach/slack bike through tighter turns... but on the other hand, I do wonder if I'm at the wrong end of the stability/maneuverability spectrum for my preferences, riding style, physical build, etc. From riding other bikes (like an angleset-ed Process 134 that was just as slack with similarly short chainstays but shorter reach), I think that the long reach could be the main parameter that gives me the feeling of less maneuverability. I guess I'm wondering if I should spend some more time trying to adapt to the bike and benefit from the stability of a long reach, or try sizing down. Framesets are $750 right now, so I could always keep both and transfer parts back and fourth between the two, but it's going to be time consuming.
